Obituary
Our loving parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, brother & sister and friends passed from this mortal life together and returned into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 4, 2017. We take great comfort knowing they are united for eternity.
Robert, known as Bob, age 85, was born December 18, 1931 in Springville, Utah to Walter Mills Liddiard & Emily Donaldson Liddiard. As a young man he spent time fishing, hunting, and tending greenhouses with his father at Brigham Young University. Bob was a hard worker and saved his own money, by working various jobs like mining uranium in southern Utah to working construction in Alaska, to pay for his mission and education. After graduating from Provo High, he went into the Air Force ROTC at BYU. He served a three-year LDS mission in Germany and upon returning continued his education in the ROTC. He pursued a degree in education and taught Biology, Botany, and German at Olympus High School. Bob loved nature and never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge with others. In the summers he would provide for his family by teaching summer school, which included desert adventures and activities of eating ant larvae and playing with rattlesnakes. Bob retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves. He was never a stranger to trials, but through any adversity he had an unwavering faith and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bob loved Diane with all his heart and always treated her with dignity and respect. At the end of his life his favorite mantra was to have "faith, hope, and charity".
Diane, age 78, was born September 23, 1939 in San Mateo, California to Willard John Schauerhamer and Dorothy Morganson Schauerhamer. As the oldest of 3 children, she learned to mother at a very young age. She helped to take care of the house and her younger sister so her parents could begin the family business, Economy Builders Supply. She had a heart of gold and never missed an opportunity to show charity to others. She loved babies and while her own children were young she was active in the PTA and enjoyed being a room mother. She enjoyed her service as a primary teacher and Young Women's leader and service in other capacities. While she never had a chance to learn to play piano, she made sure her own children had this opportunity and many others that she felt would make them happy and productive adults. She was a very creative person and loved browsing garage sales and found the best treasures for many. When Diane made a friend, she had a friend for life. She gave tireless service to countless individuals. She had an endless amount of empathy for others and enjoyed serving. As a natural-born floral artist, she and her husband decorated for many wedding receptions and often at her own expense. She had a great sense of humor. Anyone that knew her well was a fan of her famous spaghetti sauce.
They met at a dance and while Bob was immediately smitten, he had to work hard to win Diane's heart. After Bob was involved in a severe accident with a black powder gun, Diane had such compassion for him that she realized her love for him. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 11, 1960. Together they lived a life of service and were always active members of the LDS church. Their life's one mission was to love and serve. They always put others first and cherished their time with family and friends. Their greatest pride and joy were their children and grandchildren.
Survived by Julie and Michael Brinkley of Monroe, WA, Tracie and Troy McLaughlan of West Jordan, UT, Rob Liddiard of Salt Lake City, UT, and David Bryan Liddiard of Frederick, MD, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild and another one on the way in March. Preceded in death by their parents, Bob's brother, Sam and his sister, Walene, and Diane's brother David.
Joint funeral services will be held Saturday, Novemeber 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the LDS Holladay 25th Ward, 4650 S Naniloa Dr, Holladay. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 6-8:00 PM and prior to the funeral on Saturday from 10-10:45 AM at the same location. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr. Salt Lake City, Utah.
