Jack Wendell Northrup (June 03, 1928 - October 22, 2017)

Jack was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 3, 1928 to Harvey and Leah Northrup; he was the 6th and last child in their family. Jack grew up on Bryan Avenue in Salt Lake City and attended Centenary Methodist Church throughout his youth and loved playing and sports, especially baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and football. He graduated from South High School, playing football for the South High Football Team.
After graduation he worked for the Salt Lake Tribune and one of his favorite activities was the many fly fishing trips with his older brothers in the Uinta Mountains along with the Madison River in Yellowstone.
After graduating high school he attended the University of Utah, joined the army and spent 2 years serving his country being recalled after discharge for an additional year of service during the Korean War.
After completing his time in the army, he then got his degree at the University of Utah and went into a beloved teaching career that lasted for 36 years, most of which was spent teaching English at Olympus Jr. High School. During this time he also got a degree in Russian from the University of Indiana and was able to spend 3 months in Russia. Teaching was Jack’s passion and he touched many of his students with his devotion to education.
He married Eva Joan Northrup November 24, 1952 and was married until her death November 1985. They had four children together: Michael, Vicki, Craig, Kevin, and had seven grandchildren. He then married Margaret Jean Bell on August 15, 1988 and became a stepfather to Margaret’s children: Gayle, Vicky, Kevin, and Chris. They were very happily married until his death.
Jack enjoyed the game of golf on a regular basis and played until 88-years-old. Some of his favorite times were playing golf with his wife and sons. He was also an avid pinochle player, playing weekly with his wife, friends, and family until days before his death. He always enjoyed his monthly trips to Wendover with his wife and friends.
Jack was an inspiration to all of us. He was full of love and devotion to his family and friends.
